Downhill

The quality of living at The Quarry has declined greatly since it was acquired by Cogir in 2003. Increasing prices have accompanied losses of services and privileges. Hourly workers are overworked and poorly trained. Management just announced arbitrary cost increases.

Respite Stay

Mom and Dad stayed at The Quarry for roughly 3 weeks on a "respite" stay to test the waters. It didn't work out, unfortunately. There were several reasons. First, the room they were in wasn't great, and Mom (who has dementia) was disoriented and unhappy. The food was OK (not terrible, not great). Because of Mom's condition, they weren't able to get engaged in the community much. Staff checked in on them often, but it seemed like a box-checking exercise - taking vitals 4-6 times a day.

Response from the community

Thank you for taking the time to share your family's experience with us. We're truly sorry that your parents' respite stay didn't feel like the right fit. That is never the outcome we hope for, especially during what we know is an already challenging time for families. We understand how disorienting a new environment can be for someone living with dementia, and we regret that your mom wasn't able to feel comfortable and at home during her stay. Your feedback about the room and the overall experience is something we take seriously and will reflect on as we continue to improve our care. We also hear your observation about the wellness check-ins feeling routine rather than personal. Our team's intention is always to provide attentive, meaningful care and your perspective reminds us how important it is that every interaction feels genuine, not procedural. Your insights help us serve future families better, and we're grateful you shared them.

We had a very pleasant tour of Cogir at The Quarry. Of the eight properties I've toured, The Quarry offered the most amenities and options for my parents, including some they are unlikely to use. However, it all comes at a higher price. Since my father has mobility issues, I'm also concerned it might actually be too large. For us, this may be an example of too much of a good thing. We would need to come back with my parents for their opinion, after experiencing a meal or activity to fairly assess. Given the distanc

The facility is clean and well maintained. They offer a lot of activities for residents. We thought that their policy of giving people on the waitlist only one day to respond is unreasonable.
