A Pleasant Home Alternative for the Elderly Today’s challenge in the long-term care business is to create suitable shelter and care solutions to meet the steadily increasing needs of an elderly community of people who can no longer remain totally independent but who do not require nursing care. The social goal of Greystone’s continuum of care is to permit an individual to live in the least restrictive environment with the greatest amount of privacy for as long as possible. Loss of partial independence need not lead to permanent loss of self-esteem or loss of power to exercise competent choices and decisions in one’s own life. Greystone Retirement Home’s philosophy is to preserve and support self-esteem and independent individual identity and enable its residents to enlarge their social circles and expand their opportunities for sharing and giving to others. Greystone provides an environment, which serves to bring the residents together, re-empowering them to the fullest feasible extent by helping to remove any shame of failure and decline through compassionate help. Greystone’s greatest challenge lies in achieving the right balance of services so that independence is encouraged without jeopardy to safety and well-being. Greystone’s aim is to provide the security and comfort of well-being for all residents, by means of an appropriate blend of personal care, health care, spiritual enrichment, and social service. Greystone is licensed by the State of Connecticut as a Residential Care Home and does not discriminate against any resident before, during, or after admission to residency on the basis of race, color, creed, age, handicap, sex, sexual preference, or national origin. Residential Care Homes are sometimes referred to as boarding homes, homes for the aged, rest homes, retirement homes, and personal care homes. Greystone is also available for temporary stays.
