It wasn't a great experience. He didn't take not need to be in memory care, his physician even said he didn't. They refused to move him out. I'm sure because they were making [removed] a month from him. He was far too high functioning to be stuck in there all day. We would go multiple times a week and each time all the staff were just sitting around in a group talking to each other instead of doing things to actually keep the residents occupied.

Independence in Ankeny Has Delivered Better Than Expected And It's Home

The staff is amazing & my mom has been wonderfully cared for. She says the food is hit or miss but there has been a few chefs since she got there. The cleanliness is off the charts in fact my mom just got moved into a newly remodeled apartment that is stunning. The staff is very friendly & helpful. The only downside is there has been a lot of turnover but I feel like that happens at all facilities.

Sincere Care

My aunt has lived at Independence Village in Ankeny for almost two years. After a short adjustment period, she has settled in. She has gotten to know the staff & they have gotten to know her. I'm most impressed with the sincere care given to each individual by the entire staff. The caregivers see each resident several times throughout the day. We love Independence Village!

From the first time we toured Independence Village over 3 years ago, we knew it was the place for mom. The facility is beautiful, the rooms are generously sized, but the staff beyond compare! Every person we've worked with spoken to or who has helped has been fantastic! Mom is happy. Comfortable and safe what more could we want!

. My families experience

The administration turnover is quite high. The food is prepared by a cook, not a chef. If your loved one requires special care, make sure you're checking up on it. My mother required special care for wounds and was not receiving it.

The facility is amazing. It is very clean & the staff is very nice. They treat my mom so good. There has been a lot of staff turnover since my mom moved in one year ago which gets confusing & frustrating l.
