Beautiful facility, nice staff, but concerns with affiliated medical after care / follow up

Staff is friendly and nice overall. Clean and well kept rooms, they have some nice activities. Communication between Elan and medical group they recommend is slow and requires a lot of follow up in order for things to happen. Elan seems short- staffed at times. My dad had a large skin cancer removed that required some follow up wound care - the doctor who removed it, requested that he be off of his blood thinners for a couple of days after the surgery and also gave an antibiotic prescription. They are severely understaffed and the wait times for assistance are upwards of 45 minutes. That being said, the facilities are nice and there are many people there that go out of their way to help.

Very thorough tour and helpful in understanding of the process for placement. The staff was friendly and available to talk to when I had questions.

We really enjoyed our visit to Elan. [name removed] was very patient, informative and kind with my mother-in-law. The visit was very low-pressure and you could tell they were concerned with her needs and anxieties that come with moving into an assisted facility when she was used to the relative freedom of independent living.

Things to Know and inquire about

We have had a bit of a rocky start. Staff has been forgetting to take mom to the dining room for meals or returning her to her apartment after the meals. Communication has been poor. I was not given names and phone numbers for key personnel. After almost 3 weeks we were finally introduced to the care manager. Also we were told that A Place for Mom does not collect a fee from us, however, Elan offers no administrative fee for veterans or spouses of veterans. After visiting many facilities this one was a no brainer!

Elan Westpointe is truly a community. The director and staff work hard to make you feel at home. They host many events that allow residents time for social experiences with one another and with family. The staff makes the most of the dinning experiences for all meals. You truly feel like you're visiting a restaurant. Room service is available for a small fee. [name removed] (Director) is great about listening to concerns or any questions.
