About Riverwood Riverwood is a golf course community situated alongside the wild and scenic Myakka River in Port Charlotte, Florida. This meticulously planned community is comprised of 28 unique neighborhoods and is an ecological paradise that includes an eagle preserve and bird sanctuary. All of the subdivisions are beautifully landscaped and carefully maintained by the homeowners association. Wide sidewalks and ample street lights provide a pedestrian-friendly environment. One of the main features of this scenic community is the 18-hole golf course. Riverwood also includes a clubhouse and a full-time activities director. Riverwood Amenities The Activity Center is the central hub for social activities and community amenities. It includes a state-of-the-art fitness center with cardiovascular and weight-training equipment, multipurpose rooms, and the community library. Outside the Activity Center, a junior Olympic-size swimming pool and spa can be found. The Admin Building is where residents can meet with social groups and neighbors as it provides access to various meeting rooms. Residents also have access to a card room, multi-purpose room, catering kitchen, and billiards. The Riverwood Golf Course is home to The 12,000 square-foot clubhouse complete with a ballroom available for private events as well as On-site dining at the Riverwood restaurant. Residents will also find the community's very own pro-shop here. Golf enthusiasts will enjoy the par-72 Riverwood Golf Course, designed by Gene Bates, which winds throughout the community. It has a 4.5 star rating and flows through terrain heavily wooded with pines, salt marsh, and wetlands. Combined with lush landscaping and native vegetation, this course is a beautiful destination for new and advanced players alike. Membership options are available for residents. The grounds at Riverwood include six tennis courts, three bocce ball courts, and shuffleboard courts. In addition, plenty of walking and biking trails enhance the community. The Riverwood Beach Club is a private, gated facility for Riverwood members and their guests. For a nominal annual fee, residents can enjoy the amenities like 5,500 square-foot cabana-style beach club, private showers, covered sundeck with BBQ grills, picnic area, and access to the beach along the Myakka River. Riverwood Homes & Real Estate Riverwood in Port Charlotte was started in 1992, and the most recent developer was Centex Homes that completed construction in the community in 2014. Home styles include twin villas, single-family homes, condos, and executive style homes, which are all available on a resale-only basis. Many of these homes have golf course or scenic water views. The condos come in buildings of four units per building with one to two bedrooms, one to two bathrooms, and a one or two-car garage. The attached villas and townhomes range from 1,557 and 2,040 square feet of living space. They have two bedrooms, dens, two bathrooms, and attached two-car garages. The single-family homes offer between 1,641 to 3,193 square feet of living space and have two to five bedrooms, two to four bathrooms, and attached two or three-car garages. The association fees in Riverwood include irrigation water, lawn and shrub maintenance service, semi-annual pine straw mulching, gatehouse, and gate access, lakes and preserve maintenance, and roadway care. Exterior-building maintenance is included for the twin villas and condominiums. The condo association also provides water and sewer for its residents. Riverwood Lifestyle While Riverwood in Port Charlotte is a superb country club-style community, there is much more to do than just play golf.
