I would rate all categories a 5. I was really happy with Silvergate. My husband was only there 3 1/2 months before he passed but I had only good experiences with them. He had a shared room so while it was expensive, it wasn't as bad as other places

We toured a place in Carlsbad that was much more expensive but looked more institutionalized. Silvergate is much more homey, broken down into neighborhoods. Also, staff ratios were much better. I visit very frequently and have become familiar with staff. I am happy that my husband looks well-kept and shaven, too.

Our family's experience

I have nothing to compare this to. First time (and hopefully last) I have used a memory care facility for a loved one. My biggest "like" are the people. The staff is very kind and keeps us informed. The lead nurse upstairs in my mother's area is incredibly helpful and kind. My biggest "dislike" is the patients not being engaged all the time. I know it is hard, time consuming and if they don't want to do something you can't make them, but I wish my mother was taken out more often. Hard with memory care patients but …

Silvergate Retirement Residence - San Marcos review

Experience was great. [name removed] ended up moving to Silvergate. Unfortunately, his health got worse as he lived there and he passed away last June. The reason for the 4 for quality- [name removed] had rechargeable hearing aids which they would not allow him to charge in his room. The medication tech was supposed to give them to him first thing in the morning with his medication, but they would forget sometimes, or they would give them to him uncharged. My loved one was previously a resident at Silvergate and the experience was terrible. I would not recommend this facility to others.

Excellent care!

I am the friend and DPOA for a resident in The Suites at Silvergate San Marcos. I visit quite a bit and I have always found all of the staff to be friendly, attentive and most of all, caring. Whether it's someone at the front desk, a nurse, medtech, caregiver or activity planner, they are all first rate. The facility is very well designed with six small "villages" each with about six residents.
