About University Place, a CCRC

One of the best things about current changing times is how people see themselves as they grow older. People have greater expectations of this time of life. They want to do more, learn more, maintain good health, and be less burdened. There is a time and a place in your life for this new kind of senior living. The place is University Place. Created by Franciscan Communities in affiliation with Purdue University, University Place is ready to meet your expectations. Located in West Lafayette, Indiana, University Place is the next-door neighbor of Purdue University. The senior living community is close to many community amenities including grocery stores like Wal-Mart and Target. There are also plenty of pharmacies in the area including CVS and Walgreens. The Lafayette community also has plenty of restaurants and shopping centers in the area for seniors, and their families to frequent. University Place itself offers a broad spectrum of beautifully designed residential choices ranging from independent living to assisted living with memory support available when needed. There is also respite and rehabilitative care available. Caregivers at University Place are skilled nurses able to provide assistance and medical care to residents. Floor plans and amenities here are nothing less than first-class. Independent living senior apartments range from one- to two-bedroom apartments. Seniors in assisted living have one-bedroom apartments and receive help with activities of daily living, allowing residents to live a maintenance-free lifestyle. Seniors that need extra memory care support receive 24 hour care in a secure environment. You will also find the continuum of healthcare services University Place offers reassuring should your needs change. The professional staff of University Place shares the Franciscan Communities vision of senior living — a vision that calls not only for caring and serving, but for helping people lead their lives as fully as possible. State Classification University Place is a residential care facility , which in the state of Indiana is a health facility that provides residential nursing care. Residential nursing care includes: skin wound care, catheter care, ostomy bag care, toileting assistance, routine administration of oxygen, and more. The Caring Staff Makes This Place Great

In her time at University Place, my mother has experienced Independent Living, the skilled nursing Wellness Center, and Memory Care. All of the staff I have met along the way have been exceptionally kind, caring, and competent. Jeannie, the marketing agent, was patient and informative when we (my husband and I) first met her, total newbies to the whole world of residential care facilities. She explained how finances, etc. worked, and kept in touch throughout the waitlist period. When Mom was accepted into Independe

Cannot recommend Memory Support

While I have heard good things about independent living at University Place, I cannot recommend Memory Support. My husband was there for over 2 years. During this time, there were numerous changes. It took almost 2 years to find an activity director. Administrative changes occurred that removed the Director of Nursing from the immediate chain of command. CNA staff changed frequently. As my husband's dementia progressed, it became clear another facility was needed. There are better care facilities for those with Alz

Response from the community

Thank you for your feedback. We strive to continuously improve life for our residents in all areas of the community. We have had a stable resident manager in Assisted Living/Memory Care for the last 2+ years, and an activity manager for residents in Memory Care for nearly a year now. She is doing great things. Our director of nursing has been with us since last August. Although changes are common in nursing and healthcare, we work toward minimal impact to residents. I'm happy to hear that you've found a community that is a better fit for your loved one.

Cannot recommend Memory Support

While other levels of care and independent living may be fine, Memory support at University Place is lacking. After 27 months in the Memory Support unit at University Place, I have moved my husband to a Trilogy facility where the care is SO much better! While the "Gold" level of care is part of Memory Support, families need to monitor, and help with, hygiene, laundry and housekeeping. The facility itself is more spartan as it was an assisted living floor. Two apartments were removed to make a common room and kitche

My review of University Place

My loved one was a resident at this facility for two years. I would give them a rating of 3 based on those two years. However based on the last six months I would give them a rating of 2, due to staffing levels and morale. Besides food/dining, all other areas were lacking. I was not notified when my loved one had COVID the first time. Administration didn't seem to give much attention to the Memory Care unit. Much more attention was given to the Independent and Assisted living areas where residents could advocate fo

I would recommend.

It is a smaller community so it has a more cohesive community feel. Everyone knows each other and helps each other. The grounds are beautiful. They have lots of sidewalks. The food is good. They have several floor plans some have balconies or sunrooms. There are lots of choices. They also have Garden homes with 2-3 bedrooms and attached garages.

Four family members love living at University Place

Four of my relatives currently life at University Place, and I could not be happier with the care they are getting and the lovely community in which they live. The staff is professional and friendly, and the place is always clean and well cared for. The dining service is top notch. It is always a pleasure to visit. I know that my loved ones are in good hands, and I am considering living there some day when I retire.
