About Above and Beyond at the Knights

Above and Beyond is a family-run company founded by brother and sister, Nader and Basima. Basima Hamati-Attieh, BSN, RN, and PCH Administrator, attended St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing and has over 20 years of nursing experience to her name. Her brother, Nader Hamati, BS-ME and PCH administrator, handles the business side of things with his advanced business skills and experience working in the managerial field. With his organizational skills and Basima’s skilled nursing experience, they have designed a personal care home community which goes “above and beyond” most care homes. Basima’s knowledge and experience pushes their home to the next level of care, as her skilled oversight has been known to save lives. We are a 150-resident assisted living community which offers personal care, respite care, and memory care services for seniors over the age of 60. Our building is off the 15th Street exit of Route 22, nestled between Allentown, Bethlehem, Salisbury, and Emmaus. The home is surrounded by rows of mature, tall pines which provides us a peaceful and private vantage. Our location was once a hotel but we now serve the community with our “above and beyond” senior care. Call us today and see what we can offer you! Living Options and Amenities We offer an array of living arrangements within our fanciful Tudor-style, dark-wood accented community interiors. We have everything from full apartments to studios to single and shared rooms -- with specialized options for our limited-mobility residents. Bathrooms offer roll-in, wheelchair accessible showers, raised toilets, and safety bars. Ground floor units are available for easy access, and air conditioning and heating is provided throughout all rooms. Our memory care section is locked and secured with security-coded exits and entrances, making sure all residents are safe, comfortable, and accounted for. Dining Dine in style in one of our expansive, open-concept dining rooms with full service attention. One of our luxe dining areas has red carpet, Elizabethan pillars, candle-like chandeliers, crimson drapes and table cloths, place settings, and dark-wood wingback chairs with red and gold patterned fabric. Another dining area offers clean, round tables with formal white table cloths, place settings, comfortable dining chairs, and an open view of the kitchen where all the magic happens. All meals are prepared on-site by our professional chef whose job it is is to make sure residents are satisfied with delicious and nutritious options. You can choose to join your neighbors in our dining room for restaurant-style dining, but specialized dining options are available to all residents upon request. Let us know what you need and we will do our absolute best to accommodate you -- we can offer options such as vegetarian, low/no sugar, or low/no sodium dishes. We also have an on-site Bistro, just for your delights and snacking in between our mealtimes. Common Areas All common areas, inside and out, are designed with flow and function in mind to accommodate those with limited-mobility, wheelchairs, and walkers. No one is ever left out of the socializing fun! We offer a spacious TV lounge, perfect for relaxing to your favorite shows, movies, or sports games. We even have a movie theater room designed just for movie nights with snacks and friends. Our community library is full of books for everyone’s interests and is a quiet place to just relax and recollect. Our memory care section has its own dining area and activities room, where you can find us playing games or socializing with friends and family. Outdoor common areas are spacious, green, and surrounded by lush trees and landscaped bushes for privacy and fresh air. We have a secured patio area, front and back, with colorful garden beds and patio furniture. There are outdoor rocking chairs, tables with umbrellas for shade, and a grill for BBQs. Basima’s husband, Tony, is known as “King of the Grill” during grilling season as he prepares delicious items for all to enjoy. Activities We employ a full-time activities director to ensure everyone stays stimulated and entertained with options for all interests! We love hosting outdoor parties, picnics, happy hours, game nights with bingo and cards, and themed parties. A resident favorite is our Mardi Gras party, where staff joins in on the fun wearing masks and beads while everyone shares a King cake. Stay moving with our options of fitness classes, such as chair yoga, our ForeverFit™ program, and even video games that promote movement and mobility. For more mental stimulation we offer options such as art and cooking classes. Pets make everyone smile, so join us on one of our pet therapy days. Go out on the town with us, as our wheelchair-accessible bus takes us on exciting outdoor excursions to dining, shopping, and even the casino! Personal Services Our concierge is available to all residents and visitors to answer any questions you may have about our services or nearby area. Complimentary transportation services are provided to residents upon request for any needs, and we even have a wheelchair-accessible bus. Never worry about finding your way to the salon or barber shop again as we offer an on-site beauty salon for all your stylish, grooming needs. Housekeeping is provided to residents and maintained throughout our community. We also have grocery shopping services available. Devotional services are provided weekly on-site, or we can give you a ride to one of our local denominations. Local Area There’s plenty to offer in the local neighborhood -- from convenient amenities to opportunities for exciting adventures. For our residents who love the outdoors, the green and lush West Park is just a mile away, with walking paths or places to sit and birdwatch. Is golfing on the green one of your favorite pastimes? Well, look no further than the Allentown Municipal Golf Course, open to the public, just over two miles from our community. Museum buffs will be happy to know the Lehigh Valley Heritage Museum is just 3 and a half miles away. The museum is curated by one of the largest historical societies in America -- the Lehigh County Historical Society. Allentown also has plenty of social events for seniors including, but not limited to, a local ballpark trivia night and a family movie night. Visiting friends and family can stay at the nearby Holiday Inn Express, which is 1.3 miles down the way. Rest assured that acute and immediate medical care is never far away, as the Lehigh Valley Hospital is less than a mile from our community. Medical Services Licensed caregivers are on staff to provide supervision and assistance to residents in immediate need. We have a medical director to oversee everyone’s care needs, along with a dietician to help assure all nutritional needs are met. Visiting occupational and physical therapists, massage therapists, and an optometrist offer their services to our residents for their optimum comfort and health needs. A doctor is on-call at our community to handle any immediate questions or medical care needs, such as medication adjustments. We can provide assistance with transfers, as well as activities of daily living (ADLs), such as bathing, dressing, feeding, toileting, and walking. We have staff who can patiently assist with incontinence care for bladder and bowel related issues. Specific memory care therapies can be arranged, such as reminiscence therapy and sensory-based therapies. Hospice and respite care are also offered, if needed. Care Types Offered Above and Beyond at the Knights is considered an independent living community which provides memory care services. These terms are defined as follows: Independent Living Independent living communities – also known simply as retirement communities – are geared towards seniors who are able to live on their own, without daily assistance, and prefer to live among people their age. This usually means residents are self-sufficient and do not require hands-on care. Think of retirement communities as age-restricted (typically 55+) complexes, which provide organized activities, meal services, and transportation. Memory Care Memory care communities — sometimes called Alzheimer’s care or dementia care facilities — provide specialized care for seniors who have Alzheimer’s, dementia, or other forms of memory loss. These communities offer personalized cognitive rehabilitation programs alongside assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs). Memory care usually includes 24-hour supervision and unique design elements, like outdoor gardens and color-coded walls, to help ease anxiety, agitation, and other symptoms of dementia.

1 star is generous

The fact that this facility is allowed to operate is beyond comprehension. Under no circumstances should this assisted living facility be considered a safe or compassionate place. Residents are over medicated to the point there is conflicting medications at play. These are corpses not humans. The staff treat visitors with disrespect and hostility. One of the most unforgivable acts was barring a daughter from seeing her mother for months and then refusing her access again as her mother was nearing death. Residents h

SCABIES! RUN!

My mother contracted a severe urinary tract infection while there. She also contracted SCABIES while there. As of 1/6/24 they do not have a current kitchen inspection. Severely understaffed. Management does not return messaged or emails. Very poor communication.

Would recommend to a family or friend

This community is very good value, they have a good selection of care services, different levels of care which is what we really liked. They would go on field trips, also have organized games and bingo. Live entertainers that would come in and play during the holidays. The layout is good as well as the decor. It looks reasonably up to date.

Above & Beyond At The Knights

They had air fresheners everywhere to circulate the air and keep it smelling nice. The staff was friendly for the most part and the aids were all very nice. The food was was pretty good as well. We did think Above & Beyond At The Knights was an ok value for the price, however it was not all included care so things got pretty expensive after a while. My father lived in the downstairs memory care unit and was kicked out of the community for getting aggressive with one of the other residents. We did not feel that thi
