Assisted Living Services Are Not As Promised

My mother began using assisted living services at Benchmark when she was no longer able to independently walk, dress, use the restroom, or transition to/from her wheel chair. She was not in memory care, but needed assistance with these physical tasks and was provided a pendant/button to press anytime she needed help using the restroom or with anything else. It can take a very long time for staff to respond to those calls, and sometimes they do not respond at all. We raised this w/ management numerous times over the…

From start to finish, our tour guide was fabulous, professional, clean, and really had that human touch. Can't get much better.

Location is great.

We love the facility location. Staff generally has constructive attitudes. They need to reduce the turnover. The staff is not always aware/informed of my mom's special needs.

I couldn't ask for better

I love the independence and the fact that I can be friends with everyone. I have a lot of friends here. Everyone is kind, friendly and talkative. I couldn't ask for better.

TERRIBLE

Contrary to the website touting social programs, lectures, wine tasting, yoga, etc., activities either don’t happen or are poorly planned/executed. Some of many examples all from 2023: the social calendar said residents would gather to discuss the news. Residents arrived and were told they were not going to discuss the news because it is too depressing. No alternative activity/discussion was offered. Meals should be healthier.

Meals should be healthier, or at least some healthier options offered for those who want them. For example, there should be low-salt, no-salt, vegetarian, and non-dairy options available even without a doctor's note imposing a strict diet of that nature. Whole grain breads, yogurt without corn syrup, and other healthier upgrades are needed.
