Oaks at Salem Road

Overall a good place

Overall it's a nice place. The facilities have not been kept up like it should have been, but they do have a new maintenance lead now. Hopefully that will help. Most of the staff are very courteous and friendly, and do a great job. In my opinion, the administrator is not a great manager. I managed people for over 30 years, and this administrator leaves a lot to be desired.

Potential to be a great facility

The Oaks is nicely and quietly situated well in Beaufort. The activity director is fabulous as well as a few select staff . They are friendly and treat the residents with respect. It’s kept clean and my mom’s room is nice. The maintenance guy is top notch. A few glitches from time to time when short staffed . Medication dispensing delays etc . However the food service is not as stated in brochures and internet. It takes away drastically because it’s important. They do not have chef prepared meals . More like Chefb…

Not what it used to be

The Oaks was bought out by a corporation about a year and half ago. It was called [community removed] and since having my mother in there for a year it has declined. No housekeeping, no maintenance, and my mother hasn’t had a shower in 23 days as I type this. The staff are exhausted and overworked and are letting the family members know! They need help! I am so disappointed that corporate has not stepped in and provided help in trying to adequately staff the facility. Perhaps offering employees better wages and inc…

The Oaks at Salem Road does not have a memory unit and had not been renovated for some time. I felt my mom would be in a memory unit in the next few years. . The Individual at Oaks at Salem Road who gave the tour was new and, in my opinion, not well suited to leading tours yet.

So impressed

So impressed with all the staff, their kindness and professionalism. They are so positive and really understand what their clients are experiencing. I can pick up the phone to call and talk to [name removed] and it doesn't matter which one answers. My parents are happy and we are at rest knowing they are in excellent hands. Just wish we could clone them and set up in St Louis for another loved one of mine.

Excellent community

What really stood out to us was the cleanliness of the community and just the lay out - it is really nice and all the staff members have been good to work with. The only reason the care services got a 4 out of 5, is sometimes our loved one does not want to cooperative when it comes to bathing, but we would still recommend this community to other families.
