It has become crystal clear that an assisted living facility should have at its core people (an appropriate ratio of well trained care takers) who are devoted to genuinely caring for and assisting residents to ensure their safety and comfort. The ratio of staff to resident was not adequate to maintain appropriate care and safety. He fell several times and felt staff were slow to respond to his calls for assistance. Our parent lived at The Retreat @ Lady’s Island for 3+ years and this was an amazing place with a great staff that was very attentive to their residents. Eventually, we needed to relocate our parent to be closer to family but that was a very hard decision to make. The staff is what made that decision so difficult. Excellent experience

We have been here just a few weeks but we have had an excellent experience. Staff is very helpful. Food is very good. Building is clean. They take care of our laundry. Make sure everything's going good. They clean the rooms for us. Things like that. Overall, it's a fantastic experience here.

My mother-in-law was a resident of The Retreat starting in the assisted living area. As a family I don’t think we understood assisted living or the care that she needed extended beyond the care offered on assisted living. She was transferred to memory care unit and I can’t say enough nice things about the unit. The staff was very caring knew what was going on with her and make suggestions for us. As with any place of service. There are always good people who do so very well and those negative experiences Dad had were with only a few. I think those few would have done so much better if they had more help. I also recommend a a different call system , one that involves a voice that answers and can listen to the specific needs of the client.
