About the community
The Virginian is a beautiful age-in-place community nestled on 36 wooded acres. We offer a full continuum of care, including Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care, and a comprehensive Health Care Center. Our month-to-month rental model means there are no large buy-in fees, allowing residents flexibility and peace of mind. Since opening in 1980, The Virginian has built a strong reputation for excellence in senior living. We are proudly owned by Welltower, the largest senior living real estate group in the world and professionally managed by Cogir Senior Living. In 2024, we completed a $67 million renovation that revitalized every aspect of our community and expanded our offerings to 330 modern, thoughtfully designed residences. We understand that choosing a senior living community is a significant lifestyle decision and often takes time. Many families find it helpful to visit in person for a personalized tour, explore the apartments, costs, care and discuss what matters most to them.

PositiveIf you choose rental vs. buy-in for independent living, This is the best by far in Fairfax county. High marks for everything, apt choices, activities, dining, etc. The biggest plus is the two meals a day which is unique and in my opinion their biggest selling point.
Response from the communityThank you for your positive review!

CriticalI went for a follow up visit and to be placed on their wait list. My application was never processed.

We’re very sorry to hear that your application was not processed—that is certainly not the experience we want for prospective residents. We understand how frustrating this must be, especially after taking the time to visit and follow up. Our team strives to handle all applications promptly and communicate clearly throughout the process. Please contact us directly so we can look into this right away, confirm your status, and ensure everything is properly addressed.

PositiveThe staff members are very friendly and the food overall is good. Yes, I would recommend The Virginian by Cogir to other families, however it is expensive.

PositiveThere are dozens of senior living options in the Washington, DC, area but one stands apart for the level of care you and your loved ones will feel the moment you first walk through their doors: The Virginian. The campus-like environment and friendly people helped us feel at home and like we belonged from Day One. The delicious restaurants, gleaming modern facilities, vibrant activities, and true community create a positive and uplifting vibe. It can be a frightening decision to leave your home and move to a senior…

PositiveMy fiancé was at Inova Hospital and needed to go into an independent living situation for reasons too complicated to say here. Last minute and without an appointment, [name removed] showed me a beautiful 2 bedroom apartment and gave me a tour of the facility on a Friday. We decided to take it on Sunday. She brought the signing documents to us in the hospital on Monday and she, [name removed] and [name removed] moved mountains so we could move in on Wednesday. After a traumatic diagnosis, he has his independence, an…
